Activities
The activities department furnishes a variety of programs and events for the residents and their families at Perham Memorial Home. A certified activity director, along with staff, help residents meet their spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social, and physical needs. Daily activities are scheduled, as well as weekend and evening activities. The department also assists in meeting the needs of patients in swing bed and respite care beds in the hospital.
Adult Day Care
This program is for elderly or disabled persons who need some supervision and socialization during the day. The program is individualized to meet each person's needs and may include services such as meals, medications, personal cares, and access to outpatient services.
Birthing Suite
Family centered care is the philosophy of our birthing department. We strive to individualize each delivery to the patient's needs and desires. Our birthing rooms feature soft colors, soothing lighting, and comfortable furnishings that provide a safe, yet homelike delivery. We encourage parents to have the baby stay in the mother's room at all times to promote bonding with the baby. Nursery care is available from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., if requested. Experienced obstetric nurses are on duty at all times.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
The purpose of Perham Memorial Hospital's cardiac rehabilitation program is to strengthen and improve an individual's cardiac endurance and function through a regular exercise program, provide education on heart
disease, and to assist in modifying risk factors for heart disease.
A registered nurse trained in coronary care and cardiac rehabilitation, leads patients through individually designed exercise sessions approximately three times a week. Heart rate, blood pressure, and heart rhythm are monitored closely during each session.
Our cardiac rehabilitation nurses work closely with cardiologists and family practice physicians to make sure there is a coordinated approach to each patient's care. Our nurses also provide cardiac teaching and counseling for each participant on their individual risk factors for heart disease.
Dietary
In addition to patient education, our dietary department handles the nutritional needs of the nursing home, hospital, and cafeteria, which serves both visitors to our facility and employees. A full-time dietary manager oversees operations with consultation from a registered dietitian, who is available for outpatient services and individual diet consultations.
Meals By Wheels, an in-home meal delivery service, is also coordinated through our dietary department. Manned by volunteers, Meals By Wheels provides hot meals five days per week and frozen meals upon request. For more information about Meals By Wheels, please contact our dietary department by calling 346-4500.
