Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a health profession that helps persons whose lives have been affected by illness or injury. Examples of people who benefit from OT range from a child with a birth defect to an adult with a fractured wrist to a person affected by the aging process.

The goal of occupational therapy is to assist individuals in achieving an independent and productive lifestyle following illness, injury, physiological, or developmental disability.

Rehabilitation services are beneficial to those recovering from a stroke, brain injury, orthopedic conditions, or muscle pain and injury. Pediatric therapy is also offered, helping children who struggle with pervasive developmental disorders (such as Autism or Asperger’s Disorder), developmental delays, and Sensory Integration Dysfunction

Occupational therapy staff members work with school age children, patients in the hospital, outpatients, home care clients, and nursing home residents. They also provide consultive services to local businesses for injury prevention in the work place.

Physical Therapy

From the child with developmental disorders to the teen athlete recovering from an injury to the senior adult with arthritis, physical therapy helps people make the most of their abilities.

PMHH physical therapy staff work with patients in the hospital, home care clients, nursing home residents, outpatients, and people in the work place.

Services for all types of patient needs, including acute, sub-acute, pediatric, geriatric, and outpatient populations, are provided by our physical therapy department. The department utilizes the latest in therapeutic and rehab equipment, specializing in orthopedic, spinal, neurologic, and industrial injuries.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is an intensive rehabilitation program for patients who cannot or have difficulty expressing their needs. Clients include people who can talk, but have difficulty expressing themselves and requesting things they need; people who can’t speak or are limited to one or two words; people who can talk, but others have a hard time understanding them; and people who can talk, but cannot or have difficulty understanding what people say to them.

In addition to our Pediatric Therapy program, we also provide Interactive Metronome®, an advanced brain-based treatment program designed to promote and enhance brain performance.  Over the course of the program, children learn to focus, attend, increase physical endurance and stamina.

The IM program challenges the child to synchronize a range of hand and foot exercises to a precise computer generated reference tone.  Immediate feedback, measured in milliseconds, is received guiding the child towards improved performance.  Our therapists are Certified Interactive Metronome® Trainers.
