Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy is a health profession that helps persons whose lives have been affected by illness or injury. Examples of people who benefit from OT range from a child with a birth defect to an adult with a fractured wrist to a person affected by the aging process.
The goal of occupational therapy is to assist individuals in achieving an independent and productive lifestyle following illness, injury, physiological, or developmental disability.
Rehabilitation services are beneficial to those recovering from a stroke, brain injury, orthopedic conditions, or muscle pain and injury. Pediatric therapy is also offered, helping children who struggle with pervasive developmental disorders (such as Autism or Asperger’s Disorder), developmental delays, and Sensory Integration Dysfunction
Occupational therapy staff members work with school age children, patients in the hospital, outpatients, home care clients, and nursing home residents. They also provide consultive services to local businesses for injury prevention in the work place.
