PMHH offers child passenger safety seat inspections

Perham Memorial Hospital is excited to announce that child safety seat inspections are now more available in Perham. The hospital sponsored a four-day, child passenger safety certification program that was attended by people from all over the state, and now has four certified technicians on staff.

“With a 73 percent misuse rate in child safety seats, it is important to get seats checked and installed properly by a technician who has become certified,” said Jill Carlson, PMHH OB Coordinator and newly certified safety technician. “PMHH wants to make sure access to safety technicians is accessible and convenient for parents. The safety of our youngest passengers is a priority.”

According to Carlson, child car seats have expiration dates and a recall list is published each month. “Having your child’s or grandchild’s safety seat inspected is the best way to ensure the seat is accurately installed, up-to-date, and provides the most security it can for your loved one.”

On July 1, 2009, Minnesota law changed and now states a child who is under the age of eight or shorter than four feet nine inches, is required to be fastened in a child safety seat until the appropriate age and height. As former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, M.D., said “If a disease were killing our children at the rate unintended injuries are, the public would be outraged and demand that this killer be stopped.
