Perham Health and Perham EMS Offer Child Car Seat Clinic
Perham Health and Perham Area EMS will sponsor a free child car seat safety check on Tuesday, May 22, to help educate parents and caregivers on the correct use and installation of child car seats. More children over the age of two die in motor vehicle crashes than from all childhood diseases combined. Statistics indicate that approximately 85 percent of child passenger seats are either the wrong fit for the child or are installed incorrectly, often contributing to injury in a crash.
At the check, certified technicians will determine if the proper car seat is being used and if the seat is installed correctly. Technicians will also notify parents if the condition or age of the seat deems it unsafe or if a recall has been issued that parents may not know about.
The clinic will take place from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the drive on the South side of the Perham Fire Department, 525 West Main. Since each check takes approximately 30 minutes per car seat, please call Fran at 346-4440 to make an appointment. Slots are limited. Parents are asked to bring their child(ren) to the check so correct fit of the car seat can be determined. The vehicle and car seat owner’s manuals are also needed to ensure proper installation.
